Heard from one of the DVSJ Board Members who checked out the trails on Tues. Some good and some very bad areas – so riding is not recommended – ice, exposed rocks and bare spots everywhere. Lots of overheating unless you have a fan-cooled sled.
Due to lack of snow and potential property damage our local businesses have requested no riding down Windy Hill toward the following:
- Across the Dover Fire Department property (which accesses Last Chair and West Dover Joe’s)
- The Windy Hill / Chadwick’s Trail (which accesses The Saloon, Layla’s Riverside Lodge and Toscanella)
Unfortunately the weather is not looking good for rest of the week and may force closure of our trail system. 🙁
Rain – Rain go away. Stayed tuned for update on trail conditions. Our fab groomers went out Saturday night to struggle with smoothing out the trails!
The Valley got 6-8 inches of snow and the groomers are going out – Get out and ride!
Thursday: Somerset & Chimney Hill trails
Friday: Somerset & HogBack / Downtown trails
Saturday: Somerset & Chimney Hill trails
The trails are open! Get out and ride!
The valley had 8 inches of nice packing snow on top of the 4 inches of fluffy stuff. Groomers went out to Chimney Hill, Sommerset, and Hogback on Wed.
Wed. predictions are for more snow so this weekend is looking like a great one!
Sad news – Trails are closed. Look for updates as soon as the snow falls!
Many of the local businesses/West Dover Town are asking that you DO NOT ride to the establishments until there is snow! Riding on grass and bare pavement through parking lots will only make the landowners shut the trails down for the season. The owners of Layla’s and The Valley View Saloon specifically request that riders DO NOT RIDE TO THEM until we get some snow. There is no snow and sleds will damage the properties.
Trails are reported very thin. Barely any snow on Boyd Farm Hill. The Valley Trail and trails towards Chimney Hill have many brown/bare spots. There isn’t much snow to groom!
Do the snow dance PLEASE!
The valley received 5 inches of snow and groomers went out Wed night. DVSJ trails are opened and please ride with caution. It’s rough out there, so please report any trail experiences to our FB page.
Stay tuned for our updates especially if we get more snow.
Our trails took a big hit and are closed until we get further snow coverage. The VAST interactive map will be updated as soon as possible.
Groomers will not be out until our volunteers can assess the snow coverage, and check out the washouts. Stay tuned as the weather reports say cold temps and snow is on the way.
Rider reports came in for Monday and Tuesday’s trail conditions – best riding evah!!!! One rider reported the Wardsboro 710 trail was outstanding and road to the Wardsboro General Store for a sandwich and back to home town!
GROOMERS ARE OUT THIS WEEK- Wednesday, Chimney Hill and Somerset. Thursday Hogback and Downtown trail.
Friday and Saturday reporting will be based on weather conditions! – Fog, rain and warmer temperatures 🙁
With impending rain/ice, we will determine times based on the outcome of the snow conditions on the trails.
Hoping that the wintry mix with low temps for Saturday should make for a good trail grooming. Keep your fingers crossed.
ASAP – We will update the Blessing of the Sleds event – just waiting to see what mother nature will do.
